Wrap-up, about damn time!

Well really needed to do this along time ago, but just got the bad taste out of my mouth about last years 02 lap dismal showing. I think the concise write up on Jalopnik summed it up. We are hard at work (right guys?) on the Gator-O-Rama entry and very happy to announce St. Arnold Brewery as our featured sponsor.

But the best part of the whole experience from the last race and moving forward has been the new friends and old friends all working, sweating, swearing, drinking and hoping together.

In addition we had the good fortune to have a Helmut Werb as an honorary team member, he was visiting from LA (Los Angeles, not Louisiana) as a journalist for a German Financial daily, Handelsblatt. It was great hearing his stories of travel, experiences and racing from his past. I think the lemons race was a pleasant surprise to the good racing and wonderful comradery of all the racers and teams.

We also came out of this experience better prepared for the 2009 races and hope to make a great showing at February’s Gator-O-Rama.

Here is a link to a crapload of images from the race weekend. If you see anything you want, email me the image number and I’ll send to you as soon as I can.

See you on Feb 28th.

Wait ’till next year!

The force was not with Darth at the 08 TX Lemons, we completed 2 laps under green and a lot more under yellow. It was a great weekend overall though. The team really came together with everything from an awesome hauler RV for everyone to crash in to lots of hard work bleeding an incorrect brake caliper to replacing a head gasket. Helmut was able to get in a few laps in the #14 “Never Quit” BMW 1600, thanks to our radiator that we happen to not be using.

Thanks to all the support crew, keeping us in beer, breakfast tacos, chips and in good spirits. All the new friends from other racing teams from from every corner of the US, and of course Tony from Prestige Auto for finding the only head gasket in Houston.

And last but not least, Jay Lamm and the whole Lemons group were great, they ran a well organized kaos keeping the racing clean, fun and entertaining. Look forward to seeing you in Houston for the next race - Just wait ’till next year!

Photos, vids, and more later.

More Darth work updates

Category: 24 Hours of LeMons

Here are some more shots of the awesome work that is being done. We have all the team involved as well as Charlie and Preston helping on everything from brakes to paint. Drew was also on hand to help with the grinding, sparks are good. Hope and Zoe helped out the more painting, smells good. And of course Mike Dean, Chris Levy and Scott Phillbrook were there to do tons of hard work and get really dirty. Mike Toman and Donnie Ozenne were there as well to help with the grinding, smashing and general noise making.Final push will be Thursday and Friday morning before Darth Bimmer makes it’s debut on Friday at check-in.

And if I have not done it already I need to give props to Martin Miglioretti for the concept and team name.

Very Busy Weekend

The crew was in full force (pun intended). It was two full days of work on the clutch, transmission, engine and radiator. With only a few skinned knuckles, and smashed fingers we got quite a bit accomplished. There was not a Jack O sighting, except at Myke’s Bach party donating to the local stripper retirement fund. No wrenchin’, no bitchin’

Scott “professionally” installed the roll cage early into the morning, which looks great and more importantly keep us safe. Luckily we had plenty of beer and Rudy’s “World Famous” hot pork rinds to keep us going. Still 5 more nights of work to get this gem race ready, we will be there somehow.

We have a new driver - Welcome Helmut!

Helmut Werb is a Photographer/Journalist and will be covering the 24 Hours of Lemons - Texas for a German financial newspaper, Handelsblatt Germany. I guess they need something to take their mind off of the current economic issues.

Weekend Update

Lots of good workers and good work complete, Mike “the Hammer” Dean and Chris Levy did a job on removing the interior and Scott worked on the wheel bearings and cut off saw. We have a long way to go in two weeks but it will get finished…somehow.
